A Week Inside Inly Toddler House

“Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment.”
—Dr. Maria Montessori

In the Toddler Class…

We have been exploring our primary colors for sometime now. Most of our activities have focused on red, blue, and yellow. We now have a “yellow table” for our children to explore all the things we can find in our classroom that are yellow. Please be sure to bring a yellow item from home to share on our yellow table, next will be red. During circle time our toddler friends had the opportunity to make sound shakers, by using white rice and food coloring and shaking real hard—magic happened!

In the Bridging Class…

Shapes were the focus of the week! The children learned the names of shapes and observed that our environment and world consists of shapes. We placed objects with distinct shapes, such as a large button, pyramid, ball, and so on, in a “feely bag.” During circle the children reached in and identified the shape of the object before before pulling it out. They also classified objects according to their shapes.
